Dear friends and B.Forest readers,

Dear friends and B.Forest readers,

We are starting the second semester of 2019 by continuing the transformations the Brazilian forestry sector – and the domestic industry as a whole – has been going through with the country’s new political and economic cycle. With expansions and the arrival of new players with large investments including great construction projects, the forestry and timber markets are becoming increasingly more globalized and connected to world trends.
One such trend is the constant search for sustainable development. In this context, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the UN could provide a baseline for the industry of the future. Find out more about the Goals and their relation to forestry in this issue’s first special article. Moreover, this month’s issue also brings you an analysis of another big trend: the use of smart technologies to monitor fleets and increase efficiency in transportation and logistics processes. Last, you’ll find out more about the International Timber Week, a series of events that will discuss the main innovations in timber. Don’t miss it!
Our special guest this month is Alex Wellington dos Santos, new president of the Santa Catarina Association of Forestry Companies. Read the full interview to find out what he has to say on the current state of forestry in Brazil and expectations for his state.
